These rolls have a thin core of aluminum alloy between two layers of closed-cell foam. They can be molded into almost any shape. They are strong and supportive while soft enough to be cut with regular scissors allowing almost any bone in the body to be splinted. You can fasten this splint in place with tape and or an elastic bandage.
